Today – Stand Up for Science Rally!

Friday, March 7th, 11AM, City Hall North Apron

On Friday morning starting at 11AM, PNN will be joining Councilmembers Jamie Gauthier, Nina Ahmad and Nicolas O'Rourke as they lend their voices in support of our scientific community.

They will be joined by speakers who will call out the great contributions of the scientists and researchers who live and work in our city, and the great harm that will be done to our nation and the world if the funding for the vital work they do is eliminated to make way for more tax cuts for billionaires.

If you cannot make it to the rally, then please take a moment to sign the petition to Protect Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Philadelphia’s Scientific Community!

Rally In Support of Prison Oversight Board

Tuesday, March 11th, 12PM, City Hall, South Side

Join our allies from the prison justice coalition for a rally in front of the Octavius Catto statue located on the south side of City Hall. The purpose of the rally is to raise awareness about the necessity of the Prison Oversight Board, to provide the community with relevant information about the abuse and neglect inside city jails, and to generate support from city residents for a YES vote for the Board in the May Primary.

HRC Candidate's Forum for District Attorney

Tuesday, March 11th, 5-PM-7PM, 123 South 51st Street

PNN is honored to be a co-sponsor of what promises to be a spirited head-to-head meeting of the Democratic Party's District Attorney candidates. Current D.A. Larry Krasner and former Municipal Court Judge Patrick Dugan will take questions in a forum setting.

This format will go deeper than the usual pap that passes for journalistic integrity these days - because the questions will be coming from members of the community, many of whom are well-informed on the issues involving criminal justice.

The Forum will be held at West Philadelphia Mennonite Fellowship, located at the corner of 51st & Sansom St. Space is limited, so click below to let us know you're coming!

Come to a City-Wide Budget Meeting

Thursday, March 13th, 6PM-8PM, 1904 Walnut St

On the night of Mayor Parker’s budget address, join us at Church of the Holy Trinity located at 1904 Walnut Street, for a citywide mass meeting on the budget proposal and how to win the city we deserve!

Philadelphia needs a full and equitable budget now more than ever - People's Budget. With the Trump administration threatening major federal cuts, and everyday Philadelphians struggling to have their basic needs met, our city budget must invest in essential services and programs that keep our communities safe, healthy, and whole.

Join with tenants, lawyers and organizations from across the city for a conference designed to bring us all together to make plans to fight to put an end to the current housing crisis. This Week in History

March 7, 1965 – "Bloody Sunday." John Lewis was among 600 marchers who were assaulted by state troopers and local police as they crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge outside Selma, to prevent them from reaching the Alabama state capital.

Mar 9, 1841 – Amistad Ruling. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the enslaved Africans who seized control of the Amistad slave ship had been illegally forced into slavery, and thus were free under American law.

Mar 11, 1973 – PFLAG Founded. In response to a hate crime attack on gays in NYC in which the police did not intervene, family members created “Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays,” or PFLAG, which has since become the largest ally organization for the LGBTQ community in the U.S.

Mar 13, 2020 – Breonna Taylor Murdered. On this day, Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old innocent black woman who worked as an emergency medical technician, was shot and killed by police in her Louisville, KY apartment after officers busted through her door with a battering ram while she was sleeping.

Thanks for your activism!
